Monitoring your heart rate during exercise is an important tool that can help you indicate the intensity of your workout.

To also ensure you’re not overexerting yourself, it’s important to be aware of your maximum heart rate during exercise. To calculate this, simply subtract your current age from 220. (For example, if you’re 38 years old, your max heart rate would be 182.)
