Makar sankranti holds great significance for Hindu. It is considered a day of happiness and prosperity by Hindus. This is the time when the sun begins its movement from dakshinayana (south) to uttarayan (north) hemisphere.
On this day , lord Vishnu killed villain , symbolizing the end of negativites . Therefore , this day is very good for sadhana as the environment is full of cosmic intelligence.
Ayurveda suggests eating khichdi since it is light and easily digestible. The reason for eating khichdi is that it prompts the body to prepare for the change in season from the cold winter breeze to the forthcoming warmth of spring.
